As you can see, the majority of these reviews are stating negative features and qualities of the DD Perks application. With this being a fairly new version that Dunkin’ Donuts has launched for their app, they have not been getting
positive feedback. It is given an average of 3 stars but out of all of the ratings, most people chose one star.

One writer said, “Step in the WRONG direction. The old Dunkin’ Donuts app was not good so when I saw that they had finally totally revamped the app and were heavily promoting it with pop-ups in the old app, I was excited that they got it right for once. Sadly, that is not the case at all.”
Another stated, “Frustrating app” and “Great idea, poor execution.”
It was interesting to me when I even came across a review from a Dunkin’
Donuts employee which stated, “From an employees perspective...I am
employed at Dunkin’ and boy can I tell you customers NEVER know how to use the app. Especially when they update it...they are left in the dark with how to discover how to use it. I’m constantly having to explain even how to navigate through the app.”

Reading these reviews has helped me pick out the major issues of this app such as the navigation, issues with the On-the-go ordering and most importantly, how to pay. Reading users’ mostly negative opinions, myself being one of these users, makes me especially determined to give America the Dunkin’ Donuts app they deserve!
Although Dunkin’ Donuts is definitely up there for the coffee lovers of America, they also have some great competitors with great applications. Starbucks, for
example, has one of the cleanest designs and easy layout I’ve ever seen in an app. Another competitor for Dunkin’ Donuts is Panera Bread. Although their app is very different from Starbucks, it still works effectively and is visually pleasing. Both of these apps are giving me lots of inspiration and ideas to make DD Perks much better for users.
The colors of the Starbucks app are simple and still go along with their branding and the navigation is simplified to five easy to find pages. There are even sets of smaller navigations as you move from page to page. The balance on the users’ card is instantly shown in the bottom right-hand corner of the home screen so the user can see it at all times. The photos are beautiful and appetizing and you are able to see exactly what the product is.
Panera is consistent throughout their app using small hand-drawn looking icons to showcase each page. Their navigation is a little more in depth than
Starbucks but still gets the job done in a clean and easy way. They also have beautiful, mouth-watering photos that make you instantly want to go purchase their food and drinks.

After going over the reviews and coming across countless issues with the app myself, as well as playing around with some of Dunkin's biggest competitor's apps, I started to do some sketching. I wanted to get an idea of what each and every screen would not only look like, but function like as well. I used different colors to represent different tasks for the user including clicking / tapping, typing and scrolling.
Dunkin's color scheme consists of their pink color, "Pinky," their orange, "Creamsicle," their white, "Ebonics," and too shades of brown, "Coolata" and "Dredge". It was interesting and different to already have a color scheme that I was forced to stick with when starting this project.
The Dunkin' Donuts typeface, appropriately named Dunkin', comes in bold, regular and italic and was used sparsely throughout the app for its large, bulky features. I decided to go with the typeface Myriad Pro for the majority of the app because it comes in many different weights including regular, italic, semibold, semibold italic, bold and bold italic. It is a simple sans serif that is easy to read at any size.
